Interview with SocraTeas
I began blogging February 2011. I had been a reader of blogs for a few years and had always been inspired by what I read. While reading blogs, I felt like I discovered goals that I did not realize I could have. To this day, I would say it is other blogs that continue to inspire me to keep writing. Nothing is better than discovering a great new blog where I spend probably too much time going through the archives!
My posts on SocraTeas are mainly about my day to day life. Currently, I am training for my first marathon so I have started a weekly posting on how that is going. I also love to read so I write weekly to biweekly book reviews. Other than that my blog posts are peek into my post grad life and how I am still trying to live the best life possible.
As for networking, I love meeting new people and discovering new blogs especially those that share similar interests to my own. I think it is a great way to learn.
Blogging will always be an after work hobby of mine. Certainly it is one that I cherish, but I do not think it will ever become a full-time career. I hope that being able to read and write all day will become a sort of future career for me, but I think blogging will always be a way for me to talk about those things, rather than the career in itself.
The Happy Miles Blog and 26.2 Ph.D. are two blogs I must read on the daily. Both are great running and life blogs. I highly recommend both of them.
A favorite quote I absolutely love is from runner Deena Kastor. I think this can be applied to any aspect of life.
“We make choices. I hate to say ‘sacrifices.’ When I speak to younger groups, to colleges and other younger athletes, I say ‘we don’t make sacrifices. If we truly love this sport and we have these goals and dreams in the sport, the classroom, or in life, they’re not sacrifices. They’re choices that we make to fulfill these goals and dreams.’ Sacrifices makes it sound like ‘oh, poor me, I have to do this in order to get to this,’ and I don’t really like that word. It was just really the choice to take care of myself and live a proper lifestyle. In doing that, I feel like a healthier person, I feel focused in everything, not just in my running. In following this one dream, I feel like I became an even more well-rounded person.”
Two of my favorite posts on SocraTeas are In Which I Graduate and Post-Race Recap: Owens Corning Crystal City Half-Marathon.
Other ways to get at me are Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. I hope to see you around my blog!
